Our catalytic converter repair services can save you time and money. Oftentimes an exhaust leak near a catalytic converter can trigger a false positive engine code for a failed cat. Typically a bad catalytic converter code will show as a P0420 code. Our approach is to fix the leak without replacing the cat, clear the engine code from the computer, and see if the code comes back.
Only if the code returns do we condemn the catalytic converter.
Whenever the cat itself is still in good working order, but there are broken components surrounding the cat (eg. flanges, pipes, hangers), we can save the cat while repairing only what’s broken.
That being said, when all else fails, it is time to replace the bad catalytic converter.
